praise for Toe-Up!:

"A veritable toe-up masterclass complete with helpful worksheets, well-illustrated technique tutorials, and 15 fresh and varied patterns from someone who is truly passionate about socks."
- Clara Parkes,, author of The Knitter’s Book of Yarn and The Knitter’s Book of Wool

"Any knitter will succeed and thrive under Chrissy’s tutelage in this comprehensive and impeccably organized course in toe-up socks, with its generous menu of heels, toes, custom worksheets, and stunning original designs."
- Cat Bordhi, author of New Pathways for Sock Knitters and Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles

There are 15 patterns in Toe-Up!. Click here for a virtual fashion show of all the socks, modeled by the author and her husband.

The first section of the book, called Family Socks, includes 7 patterns designed for a wide range of knitting abilities and foot sizes. (Click on each thumbnail for more information about that sock.)

The second section, called Fancy Socks, includes 8 patterns designed to show off your knitting prowess. These socks, due to their complexity, are sized to fit a Women's M (7-1/2" to 8-1/2" foot circumference). If needed, there is a section on resizing in Chapter 1 of the book.

One of the unique features of Toe-Up! involves the use of worksheets to custom-fit your toe-up socks using your favorite toes and heels. Complete worksheets are included in the book, but you can also download a set of blank worksheets to use with the book. You will need your book to fill them out until you get the hang of the formulas.

While we do make every effort to eliminate errors and typos from our patterns, inevitably they do slip through. Listed below are the known errors from the first edition of Toe-Up!. These errors have been corrected in the pdf version of the book.

If at any time you think you've discovered an error in Toe-Up!, please don't hesitate to contact us about it.

If working the pattern from the written instructions rather than the chart, be sure to use the stitch instructions for T3F/T3B from the chart key on p. 102 instead of from the abbreviations list on p. 145.

On p. 103, the written directions for the Slip Cable Pattern need the following correction. Rounds 5 & 6 should read: "P1, [k2, p2, k2, sl1, p2]..." The chart is correct for these rounds.

After learning to knit from her grandmother at age 10, author and hand knitting pattern designer Chrissy Gardiner dabbled in the fiber arts (including knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch and needlepoint) for years before discovering her local yarn shop and the lovely luxury yarns therein. It was here she first laid hands on merino and learned that not all wool is unbearably scratchy.

Knitting became a renewed obsession for Chrissy after her children were born and she was left wondering what happened to her creativity. She left the corporate world and her former life as a software architect behind for good and decided to start a small knitting pattern publishing company called Gardiner Yarn Works. Soon after, the lure of writing her own book became too strong to resist and Sydwillow Press was born.

In addition to her Gardiner Yarn Works and Sydwillow Press designs, Chrissy's work can be found in many past issues of Interweave Knits as well as various pattern compilation books, knitting pattern websites, sock clubs and yarn company pattern lines. When she's not teaching, designing or dealing with the myriad tasks of running a small business, she's shuttling her kids to soccer practice, piano lessons and various other kid activities.
